William Krapf

November 18, 1932 — November 24, 2020

William Charles Krapf, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Riverside Senior Life Community in Kankakee.

William was born on November 18, 1932, the son of the late Alfred and Dorothy (Flatt) Krapf.  He was a lifelong member of the Green Garden United Methodist Church.  He was a Peotone High School graduate, class of 1950, and a veteran of the United States Navy.  William married Joanne (Lahti-Bettenhausen) on April 16, 1986.  William made a career farming the family farm, a way of life he genuinely enjoyed.  He loved working with his hands, taking pride in his woodworking and welding skills.

William was a member of the Will County Farm Bureau, a church trustee and past board member for Andres & Wilton Grain, Green Garden Insurance Agency, as well as the Green Garden Green View Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his four stepchildren, Roger (Kathleen) Bettenhausen, Larry (Diane) Bettenhausen, Steven Bettenhausen, and Joy Brueggert (Tom, decd 1999); a sister, Carolyn Gill; sister-in-law Rosemary Krapf; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Krapf; and a sister, Koreen Heisner.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the family’s concerns to keep friends and family safe, a private gravesite funeral service will be conducted.  A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.  Memorials to the Green Garden United Methodist Church or Hospice of Kankakee Valley would be greatly appreciated.
