Thomas Michael Donahue, born January 16, 1950, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, loyalty, and strong opinions about Chicago sports. A proud U.S. Army Veteran and dedicated retired member of Bricklayers Union Local 21, Tom carried his work ethic and sense of pride into everything he did.
A 1968 graduate of Marist High School, Tom was known for his quick wit, stubborn streak, and unmistakable sense of humor—especially his famously “bad dad jokes,” which he delivered with perfect timing and a grin. He was a die-hard White Sox fan and devoted supporter of all Chicago teams (with one well-known exception: the Cubs). He was also deeply proud of his mother’s Finnish heritage, a part of his roots he carried with pride throughout his life.
Tom found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid gardener (and all that implies), a passionate guitar player who could often be found strumming away, and most importantly, a proud father and grandfather who treasured all the moments he shared with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lyle Lukonen Donahue; his father, Joseph Donahue; his beloved wife, Barbara Donahue; and his son-in-law, Keith Smith.
He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Donahue-Smith, Victoria Donahue, and Kimberly Donahue; and his three cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Donahue, Chloe Smith, and Cash Wilsey, who will forever carry his stories, humor, and spirit with them.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hamden, Dr. Khanna, and all of the nursing staff at the Frankfort Oncology office for their kindness, patience, and empathy. Thank you for caring for Tom and for putting up with his stubbornness and endless jokes.
A special thank you also goes out to all of his favorite waiters and waitresses at his beloved dining spots—thank you for loving him and always treating him with such warmth and kindness.
Tom will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
