Ralph A. McGowen, 68, of Manteno, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.

He was a retired stationary engineer with American Can Company and a US Air Force verteran. He was a member of Peotone American Legion Post 392. He and his friend, Carl Sandberg, owned and operated Yellow Iron Tractors.

Mr. McGowen is survived by his wife, Crystal Atteberry McGowen, whom he married on December 14, 1983, in Kankakee; three daughters, Dawn (Clyde) Davhoff of Bourbonnais, Kimberly McGowen of Steger and Candyce (Mark) Tichgelaar of Roscoe; a son, Robert Richards of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, Timothy, Joshua and Christopher Tichgelaar; two sisters, Janet (Al) Janosi of Monee and Judith Walker of Monroe, Ga.; and four brothers, John (Marty) McGowen and Michael McGowen, both of Alta Verde, Fla., James (Sherrie) McGowen of Tavares, Fla., and Bill (Connie) McGowen of Eustis, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Bette Bishop McGowen.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone. Services 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the funeral home. Burial in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley
