Paul W. Johnson

     Paul W. Johnson, age 83, of Peotone, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.

     He was born on June 19, 1940 in Sterling, IL, the son of Claude and Bernice (McKenzie) Johnson.  Paul grew up in Tampico, IL and graduated from Tampico High School.  He then earned his bachelor’s degree at Western Illinois University and his master’s degree at Northern Illinois University.  He married Nora Weaver on June 9, 1963 at the Tampico United Methodist Church in Tampico, IL.  Paul was a teacher and coach for Peotone Community School District 207U and then served as principal of the Peotone Elementary School and Green Garden Elementary School.  He then worked as principal at Luther J. Schilling Elementary School in Homer Glen, IL and then as a fifth-grade teacher.  Following his retirement, he continued to work as a substitute teacher.  He was a member of Peotone United Methodist Church.  He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.  He enjoyed golf, playing bridge, and especially loved traveling anywhere to watch his granddaughter, Allie, play softball.  After his retirement, he especially looked forward to spending time and meeting with his friends who were part of the teacher/principal community in the Lockport School District.

     He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Nora (Weaver) Johnson; his son Randy Johnson; his granddaughter, Allie Johnson; 2 brothers, Don (Elaine) Johnson and Gary Johnson; a brother-in-law, Daniel Rodgers; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Paul Johnson (1-28-2002); and his sister, Barbara Rodgers.

     A visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the Peotone United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., Rev. Richard Young officiating.  There will be visitation at church from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.  The burial will be at Peotone Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family.  Share a memory at www.feddehelfrichcrossfh.com
