Mildred Honsbruch

Mildred Honsbruch, age 98, of Kankakee, formerly of Peotone, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL.

She was born on July 13, 1927, on the family farm in Rich Township to Henry and Frieda (Blume) Steinborn. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Matteson, IL.

She graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, IL, until her marriage to Verne Radigk on May 14, 1949. She later worked at Bennett Industries in Peotone from 1970 to 1992. Her husband, Verne Radigk, passed away on September 29, 1978. She later married Ivin Honsbruch on May 9, 1987. He passed away on June 20, 2013.

She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Immanuel Women’s Fellowship, the Peotone American Legion Auxiliary, and the Peotone Historical Society.

Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family, reminiscing about vacations to the Lake of the Ozarks, bowling, golfing, and playing countless games of euchre with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss the chocolate chip cookies she baked for them.

Mildred is survived by three children; Sandra Shepherd, Janet (Bill) Lucas, and Scott (Laurie) Radigk; two step-children, Debi (Mike) George and Doug Honsbruch; eight grandchildren, Jared and Jeff Shepherd, Shannon (Todd) Logue, Julie Holbert, Bill (Krissy) Lucas, Austen, Andrew, and Owen Radigk; one step-grandchild, Nick George; ten great-grandchildren, Haylee, Jonathan, and Joshua Logue, Jasmine (Christopher) White, Joslyn Holbert, Olivia and Emma Lucas, and Zeek, Zadi, and Ben Shepherd; one brother, Arthur Steinborn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Verne Radigk and Ivin Honsbruch; her son-in-law, Dan Shepherd; two brothers, Elmer and Wilmer; and three sisters, Nellie, Edna, and Clara.

Visitation will be held at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 311 W. Corning Ave., Peotone, IL, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with funeral services being held at 11:30 a.m., Nancy Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at Peotone Cemetery.
