Michael Paul Koomar passed away at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee on June 5, 2025, after prolonged illnesses.
A graduate of Peotone High School Class of 1971, he was a fierce opponent when competing on the wrestling team. Mike went on to earn a degree from Western Illinois University, School of Business in 1975. He worked over 35 years in the Lawn Equipment Division of Roper Corporation, later Electrolux / American Yard Products / Husqvarna. Mike traveled the country providing product knowledge, training mechanics on the servicing of the company’s lawn equipment, writing repair manuals, and creating training videos.
Loved dearly by his family, Mike was always proud of his brothers’ and sisters’ many talents and accomplishments as he spoke about them regularly. He showered his many nieces and nephews with attention throughout their early years and continued the same tradition with their children as often as possible.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph B. Koomar and his mother Bernadine B. Koomar. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Jo Anne (Buddy) Hege, John (Kim) Koomar, Mary Koomar (Tony Pawloski), Steven (Martha) Koomar, Robert Koomar, James (Elizabeth) Koomar, and Julie Koomar (Steve Gengler), as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Throughout his life Mike was a devoted Chicago Bears fan.
Visitation will be held at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., Father Thomas Milota officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, prior to mass. Internment services will follow at Peotone Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to the “Koomar Scholarship Fund” and mailed to 800 Parkside Avenue, Baraboo, WI, 53913. The scholarship is awarded annually to a Peotone High School Student to aid in their College Education. Share a memory at www.feddehelfrichcrossfh.com
