Lois M. (Bettenhausen) Mather, age 90, of Peotone, formerly of Green Garden, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet, IL.
She was born on April 20, 1931 in Tinley Park, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Wannemacher) Bettenhausen. She married Delmer E. Mather on April 14, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, IL. Delmer passed away on May 8, 2019. Lois worked with her husband, Delmer, on the family farm. She was a founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Frankfort. She enjoyed planting and growing a vegetable garden and then canning the produce. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.
She is survived by four children; Linda (the late Cal) Heflin of Peotone, Donna (Kenneth) Schroeder of Manhattan, Lane (Lydia) Mather of Frankfort, and Jay (Vivian) Mather of Manteno; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a brother, Thomas (Marilyn) Bettenhausen of Lexington, KY; 2 sisters, Beverly (the late Larry) Coon of Tinley Park and Lynne (Bill) Doogan of Frankfort; and 2 sisters-in-law, Irene Bettenhausen of Brodhead, WI and Jane (Alan) Heatherwick. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmer; a son-in-law, Cal Heflin; and 2 brothers, Earle and Lloyd Bettenhausen.
Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 177 Luther Lane, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. with funeral services being held at 4:30 p.m., Rev. Kevin Hahn officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following all services. Memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Lightways Hospice (founded as Joliet Area Community Hospice) would be appreciated.
