Kristen Marie Steinke was born at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska on Dec. 19, 1967, the daughter of Ivan and Carole Anderson Steinke. She was a twin of Ivan Scott, who died shortly after birth. For the time in which she was living Kristen was a miracle baby. Born at 6 ½ months, 2 pounds 13 ounces she lived the first couple of months of life in an incubator, and then was cared for and brought to health by a beloved pediatric nurse, Besse Durbin Bowen, known at Bryan as “Grandma.” She finally came home to her parents and began to grow. When she was six years old, the day she started kindergarten, she was joined by a baby brother, Ivan Kent Steinke.
She was raised in the Rockbrook United Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska.
Kristen loved spending time with her grandparents and brother on the family farm at Oakland, Nebraska. She started school at Parkview Elementary in LaVista, Nebraska, and eventually graduated from Omaha Westside, class of 1986. After a year in Switzerland she went on to graduate from the Northwestern University School of Dramatic Arts, class of 1993.
Kristen began taking ballet from Robin Chickinelli in Omaha when she was five years old. She eventually worked her way up through the Omaha Ballet Company´s school, and a s junior in high school joined the company as an apprentice. It was during her junior year that she was the understudy for the lead role of Clara. Due to an ankle injury she switched her focus to theatre. After graduation from college she had a brief but meaningful career as an actress on the stage in various theaters in Chicago. Her greatest role was as the lead in the Oak Park Community Theater´s production of The Glass Menagerie. Later she earned a masters degree in clinical counselling. She developed her own practice on her farm south of Chicago, and was involved in helping troubled youth through encounters with miniature horses.
On September 29, 2002 Kristen married Peter Scott. They subsequently adopted two children, Danielle and Jacob. Kristen´s delight was in her family and in her beloved horse farm.
At the time of her passing on May 6, 2026 Kristen was 58 years old. She was preceded in death by her grandparents June and Ivan Steinke and Clifford and Verna Anderson, her mother and stepfather Carole and Warren Daasch, her brother Ivan Scott, and her uncle and aunt Terry and Susie Anderson, and her sister-in-law Jackie Steinke. She is survived by her husband Peter of the home, her father Ivan Steinke, her children Danielle and Jacob Scott, and her brothers Gregory (Erica) Steinke-Ferrari and Kent Griffen Steinke, her aunts and uncle Pat Emil and Marvin and Karen Steinke. first cousins Brandon (Jessica) Anderson, Laura (Jeff) Abel, Ben (Hillary) Steinke, and Jon (Angie) Steinke, mother in law Birgit Scott and brother in law Hans Scott. Other relatives and many, many dear friends. In her short life as a dancer, an actress, a therapist, daughter, sister, mother and wife Kristen accomplished more than many people do in a hundred years. Her bright smile and gentle, loving countenance will be missed by everyone who knew her.
