There will be visitation both in Fulton and Peotone. The first visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Fulton Chapel-Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The second visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone, Rev. Dwight Gorbold officiating. Interment will be in Peotone Cemetery, Will Township.
Kathleen Ann Batson was born October 18, 1931, in Joliet, IL to Edward W.C. and Martha E.M. (Nickel) Batson. Kathleen was educated in the Andres, Bettenhausen, Richards, and Mueller country schools and Frankfort Grade School, all in Will County. She was a 1949 graduate of Peotone High School.
Kathleen married Harris Irvin Koehn on July 17, 1949, at Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church in Peotone. He died on October 29, 2004.
She worked several years as a part-time sales clerk for the H.A. Heyerman Jewelry Store in Peotone. For 31 years she was employed as a bookkeeper, teller, and operations officer at the Peotone State Bank which became the Peotone Trust and Savings Bank. For 24 years she served as the elected tax collector of Peotone Township in Will County and was a member of the Township Officials of Illinois.
Kathleen was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and its Afternoon Women's Fellowship. Since 1953 she was a member of the Peotone American Legion Auxiliary Post 392. After moving to Fulton in 2006, she attended the Presbyterian Church of Fulton and participated in its Lunch Brunch. As a member of the Friends of the Windmill, she volunteered at the Windmill Cultural Center. She also volunteered at the Senior Center in the Robert Fulton Commons.
Survivors include her son, Ronald H. (Constance H.) Koehn; and daughter, Barbara A. Koehn, all of Fulton; a brother, Ralph S. (Rita A.) Batson of Peotone; two other sisters-in-law, Lucille L. Batson of Frankfort, IL and Roberta C. "Birdie" Koehn of Fergus Falls, MN; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Marie B. Christopher, Betty J. Rehak, and Bonita F. "Bonnie" Hagglund; and two brothers, William D. and Eugene E. Batson.
Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Fulton, Schmaling Memorial Library of Fulton, or Immanuel United Church of Christ of Peotone.
