Joseph A. Baker, age 85, of Peotone, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL.

He was born on February 14, 1931 in Custer Park, IL, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Howett) Baker. Joseph was a retired farmer and truck driver. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, a member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392, and a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone.

He is survived by three children, Dora Portwood of Manteno, Joann (Randy) Murray of Peotone, and Larry (Pam) Baker of Momence; two step-children, Donna (Dale) Rabideau and Larry (Gretchen) Morgan; ten grandchildren, Bill Portwood, Jeff Portwood, Jackie Murray, Michelle (Ben) March, Ben (Ashley) Murray, Randy Jr. (Laureen) Murrray, Alex Baker, Nick Baker, Spencer Baker, and Robin Baker; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Norma Baker of Manhattan, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Lou (Dsida) Baker (1974); his second wife, Bernice Baker; a brother, James Baker; and a sister, Ann Crutchfield.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, October 21 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, October 21 at 8:00 p.m., Rev. Dwight Gorbold and Nancy Wheeler officiating. Graveside committal services will be held at Mount St. Patrick Cemetery, 30020 S. Cedar Rd., Manhattan, IL, on Saturday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials to Immanuel United Church of Christ would be appreciated.
