Ivin August Honsbruch, 85, of Peotone, passed away Thursday (June 20, 2013) at the Miller Center in Kankakee.
Mr. Honsbruch worked as a millwright atFord Motor Co., retiring after more than 32 years of service. He was born July 31, 1927, in Andres, the son of Irvin and Bernice (Schwiesow) Honsbruch. His first wife, Veraldine M. Honsbruch, passed away June 11, 1977. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone, where he served as elder and senior elder on multiple occasions. Ivin served the community with the Peotone Fire Department in many capacities for more than 40 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter, treasurer of the volunteer fire association and most recently served as a trustee and secretary of the board of the Peotone Fire Protection District. He was also a lifelong member of the Peotone Sportsmen's Club, where he served as treasurer. He was a past member of the Kankakee Moose Lodge in Bradley. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and he enjoyed playing golf and cards, boating and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Steinborn Radigk) Honsbruch, of Peotone, whom he married May 9, 1987, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone; children, Deborah (Michael) George, and Douglas Honsbruch, both of Peotone, grandson, Nicholas George, of Peotone; stepchildren, Sandra (Dan) Shepherd, of San Jose, Ill., Janet (William) Lucas, of Carmel, Ind., and Scott (Laurie) Radigk, of Austin, Texas; eight step-grandchildren, Jared and Jeffrey Shepherd, Shannon Logue, Julie Holbert, William Lucas, and Austen, Andrew and Owen Radigk; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen Honsbruch (1998).
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, Peotone, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Barbara Lohrbach and Visitation Minister Nancy Wheeler will officiate. Interment will be in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Fire Department, the American Heart Association or to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone.
