Fred Johannsen

Fred F. Johannsen Jr., 49, of Peotone, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
He was born March 8, 1964 in Chicago, the son of the late Fred F. Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Mabry) Johannsen. He is survived by his wife, Melissa (McKenzie) Johannsen who he married on May 23, 1987 in Mokena, IL. He is also survived by his 2 children, Megan and Collin Johannsen both of Peotone; 2 sisters, Donna (Ronald) Cooling of Lowpoint, IL and DiAnn (Ronald) Cobb of Arizona; his Godmother, Betty Habisohn of Chicago; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fred worked as a tool and die maker for American Cylinder in Peotone. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone. He was very active with his daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and his son’s Boy Scout Troop for many years. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing with his family. He also enjoyed camping and hunting.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 7 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7:00 p.m., Nancy Wheeler officiating. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Memorials to his children’s education would be appreciated.
