Earl J. Hoel, age 99, of Monee, IL, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. James Hospice in Chicago Heights, IL; just eighteen days before celebrating his 100th birthday.

He was born November 25, 1914 in Stoughton, WI, the son of the late John and Aletta (Peters) Hoel. He married the late Marie E. Hoel on August 17, 1946 in Monee, IL. She preceded him in death on January 28, 1998. He was a retired quality control supervisor for National Gypsum of Matteson, IL and a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee where he was a former church board and choir member. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood. He enjoyed fishing, golf, NASCAR, and watching all Chicago sports teams, especially the Cubs. He worked as a caddie in his younger age.

He is survived by his son, Larry Hoel, of Monee; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Clifford) Buchmeier of Bourbonnais; two grandsons, Brian (Liz) Buchmeier of Oswego and Clinton Buchmeier of Bradly; and two step great-grandchildren, Jake and Katie Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Hazel Varlinsky.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone on Monday, November 10 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Peggy Johnson officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Monee, IL. Memorials to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ would be appreciated.
