Della M. Spaenhower

Della M. Spaenhower, age 84, of Kankakee, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Citadel of Kankakee Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on September 19, 1941, in Bluffs, IL, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Lieb) Spaenhower. Della worked as a phlebotomist originally at Manteno Mental Health. When that facility closed, she then worked in Danville, IL, and then at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee. Della was an animal lover, especially her dogs. She enjoyed attending craft fairs and possessed a strong Christian faith.

She is survived by her nephew, Douglas (fiancé Lori) Eggert, her great-nephew, David (Katie) Eggert, and her great-niece, Catheey (Christian) Torres. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Grace Spaenhower; and her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Wayne Eggert.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service being held at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Terry Krouskoupf officiating. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, IL. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
