David M. Barger

David M. Barger, age 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved father, grandfather, and uncle, Dave is survived by his son, David (Amanda), and his grandchildren, Riley and Easton. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Adeline, his father, Leslie, and his brothers Ed and Charlie. Dave was known for his strong sense of responsibility and a willingness to always help others in need. Dave served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1972. Dave continued his call to service with a lifelong career as a police officer in Dolton, Illinois, and later with CSX. Affectionately known as “Pop” or “Pops” by all who knew and loved him, he will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, a charity Pop held close to his heart.

Visitation will be held at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., with a funeral service at 7:30 p.m., Rev. Ronald Rock officiating. Share a memory at www.feddehelfrichcrossfh.com
