Daniel Wayne Lafferty, age 67, of Monee, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at his home in Monee. He was born September 16, 1947 in Harvey, IL.

He was the former owner/operator of Dakota Construction in Monee, IL. He then worked as a Local 150 operator. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. He was a United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran (Rank of Sgt.). He was a former member of the Park Forest American Legion Post 1198 and a current, active life member of the Doss-Malone American Legion Post 1200. He was a retired volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Monee Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a big fan of NASCAR. He was the surrogate father figure to many of his son’s friends. Dan often said, “I have two sons and three grandsons, but a ton of kids and grandkids”.

He is survived by his mother, Mary “Jean” Lafferty of East Hazel Crest; his wife of 43 years, Jacqueline (Knight) Lafferty who he married on April 24, 1971 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee; 2 sons, Marc (Meredith) Lafferty of Manteno and Tom (Kelly) Lafferty of Monee; 3 grandsons, Jack, Sean, and Joshua Lafferty; a brother, Dwayne (Lynda) Lafferty of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Jeanne (Ron) Mansmith of Monee; a brother-in-law, John (Peg) Knight Jr. of Frankfort; and 5 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 10 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Peggy Johnson officiating. Interment and military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Illinois Veteran’s Home of Illinois in Manteno, or the family’s wishes would be appreciated.
