Harriet Thurman

Harriet J. Thurman, age 67, of Peotone, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL.

She was born on July 8, 1954 in Harvey, IL, the daughter of Donald E. Sr. and Juanita (Engle) Thurman.  Harriet worked 26 years for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as a lead investigator and then worked 15 years at Joann Fabrics in Bradley.  She enjoyed arts and crafts and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.

Harriet is survived by her two daughters; Nickie Thurman-Smith of Peotone and Leslie (Devon) Seemann of Manteno; her two grandchildren, Jasmine Seemayer and Mason Seemann; her sister, Connie (Harry) Timmer of Tennessee; special extended family members, Kelly (Evan) Graves and Matt (Andy) Schroth; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donald E. Thurman Jr.; and her sister, Judy Schroth.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Sunday, June 12 from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. with a memorial service being held at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for her grandchildren’s education fund.  Share a memory at www.feddehelfrichcrossfh.com
