Esther M. Wolkow-Biesterfeld, age 94, of Grant Park, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at her home. She was born on December 11, 1924 in Monee, the daughter of the late Otto and Meta (Behrens) Kannberg. She was a homemaker and she loved quilting and baking. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crete, Zion’s Ladies Aid, and the Peotone American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (the late Richard) Ernst of Bradley and Jeanne (Jerry) Wolkow-Stack of Chebanse; four grandchildren, Brian Ernst, Karen (Kevin) Cosmen, Lauren Olson, and Noah Stack; two great-grandchildren, Jude and Blair Olson; a brother, Ervin (Mary) Kannberg of Peotone; a daughter-in-law, Janice (Vic) VanHorn of Arizona; a special niece, Myrna Mueller of Beecher; a caregiver and friend, Elsie Siebert of Grant Park; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wilbert Wolkow; her second husband, Elmer Biesterfeld; two sons, Wayne Wolkow and Roger D. Wolkow; and a grandson, Christopher R. Wolkow.
Visitation will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1610 Main St., Crete, IL, on Saturday, December 15 from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with funeral services being held at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Lon Kuether officiating. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Crete. Pallbearers will be Brian Ernst, Kevin Cosmen, Noah Stack, Randall Bettenhausen, Vic VanHorn, and David Kannberg. Memorials may be directed to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in her memory.
