Main St. Peotone, IL 60468 Service April 23, 2009 11 a.m. Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, Peotone, IL Richard C. Nieland of Rural Frankfort, Green Garden Twp., age 87, passed away at his home Monday, April 20, 2009. He was born March 15, 1922 to the late William and Edna (nee Elsner) Nieland at the family home in Rural Frankfort, Green Garden Twp. He was the owner/operator of Strickler's Hardware in Park Forest for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Monee, IL, served as Green Garden Twp. Clerk for 7 years, Green Garden Twp. Supervisor for 20 years, and was a Will County Board and Will County Forest Preserve Commission member for 16 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bird watching, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Diane (the late Vince) Toepper of Frankfort; 2 sons, Duane (Colleen) Nieland of Monee and Randall (Wendy) Nieland of Monee; 7 Grandchildren, David (the late Gina) Toepper, Christy (Kevin) Lewis, Shelly (Ken) Tsilis, Renee and Julie Nieland, Paul (Jennifer) Nieland, and Jonelle Nieland; 8 great-grandchildren, Brandon (Nina) Toepper, Kiira and Dane Toepper, Bridget Lewis, Alexandra and Joe Tsilis, Victoria Nieland, and Caleb Hardy; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Vince and Gage Toepper. Mr. Nieland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean D. (nee Voigt) Nieland (May 18, 2007) who he married on September 12, 1944 in Monee; a son-in-law, Vince Toepper (1997), a granddaughter-in-law, Gina Toepper (2004) and a sister, Marjorie L. Kautz (2005). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 3-8 p.m. at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, 112 W. Main St. Peotone, IL 60468. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. from the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Green Garden Twp.
