Marvin J. Berner, age 67, of Peotone, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno after a long illness.
He was born on July 23, 1949 in Chicago Heights, the son of Marvin F. Berner and Genevieve Nowocin. Marvin married Leona Recupito on May 1, 1993. He was retired from the City of Chicago Heights and served in the US Navy. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wilton Center.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Berner of Peotone; four daughters, Lisa (Michael) Tennison of Peotone, Carla (Michael) Hopkins of Peotone, Ashlee Berner of Newbury Park, CA, and Desiree Berner of Reseda, CA; two sons, Eric Berner and Ryan Berner both of Cortez, CO; grandsons, Ryan Kappes, Christopher Tennison, Bradley Tennison, Tyler Hopkins, Kyle Hopkins, Eric Hopkins, Brian Berner, and Dillon Berner; a granddaughter, Shannon Tennison; a great-granddaughter, Harley Kappes; and four siblings, Richard (Lynn) Berner, Marlene (Thomas) Palanca, Jeffery (Aurelia) Berner, and Chris (Laura) Berner. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Brian Berner; and his beloved mother-in-law, Bernice Recupito.
Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, 112 W. Main St. Peotone, IL 60468 on Thursday, May 18 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 14936 W. Wilmington Rd., Manhattan, IL 60442, on Friday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m., Father Joseph Follmar officiating. Burial and military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
