Dale Robert Joseph Knickrehm, age 87, of Peotone, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Joliet Area Community Hospice surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on November 25, 1930 in Joliet, the son of the late Alvin and Mildred (Runge) Knickrehm.  He married Elizabeth “Betty” Rittmanic on February 3, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.  Dale was the retired owner/operator of Knickrehm Construction.  He also worked for Ford Motor Company in Ford Heights and was a licensed realtor.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone where he was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11232.  He was a Fourth Degree Knight and formerly served as financial secretary for the council.  He possessed his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying.  He loved to golf and was an avid bowler and woodworker.  He was extremely generous with his time, talent, treasures, and stories.  He was a wonderful husband and father, and took special delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

He is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years, Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Rittmanic) Knickrehm; his children, Stephen (Renee) Knickrehm of Manteno, Ronald (Gail) Knickrehm of LaPorte, IN, Mary (Rich) Rogers of Peotone, Cynthia (Timothy) Reed of Manteno, and Elizabeth M. “Liz” (John) Meaney of Heartland MI; 20 grandchildren, Phillip (Stefanie) Knickrehm, Stephanie Knickrehm, Jennifer (Micah) Cason, Megan (Evan) Simon, Brianna (Dan) Neal, Alicia (Jon) Kendra, Stephen Knickrehm, Nichole Grindler, Anthony Grindler, Steven Doig, Dr. Laura (Michael) Hannon, Julia (Jeffrey) Clark, Kathrine (Dustin) Simcoe, Elizabeth S. (Craig) Acton, Amy (Patrick) Dumas, Timothy Reed, Sara Reed, Ryan Meaney, Jon (Anna) Meaney, Matthew Meaney; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leland Knickrehm of Hammond, IN; 2 sisters-in-law, Patricia (Joe) McMurray of Seattle, WA and Mary (Jack) Cooper of Chattanooga, TN; a brother-in-law, James Rittmanic of Naperville; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Gladys Knickrehm; a sister-in-law, Beverly Knickrehm; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Ruth Rittmanic; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Mike Setticasi; and a sister-in-law, Lenore McMains.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, December 1 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday, December 2 at 10:00 a.m., Father Roger Kutzner and Father Denis White officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2 prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to masses, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
